Anonymous NB65 hacks All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company

Anonymous NB65 claims to have hacked All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK), a propaganda branch of the Russian Federation.

VGTRK is one of the world’s largest media conglomerates, owning a network of federal TV channels (Russia-1, Russia-24, Russia-Planet, Russia-Culture, and so on), radio, and a network of regional branches. Russia-1 is one of the country’s three main television channels.

It is no secret that Anonymous has sided with Ukraine over the ongoing conflict between two countries. The group has so far targeted the government and the private sector to spread its message.

Anonymous has also taken down Russian websites and stolen government data, including a March 1 database leak from Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development.

Lisa Forte, a partner at the security firm Red Goat, told the BBC that Anonymous’ attacks have been “quite basic,” but that the TV hack was “incredibly creative” and “quite difficult to pull off.”

According to her, hackers have mostly been carrying out DDoS attacks, which involve flooding a service with requests, a relatively simple way to carry out an attack and temporarily take websites offline.
