Apple x Sony – PSVR2 Support for Vision Pro?
This update comes from @markgurman (via Power On newsletter, Bloomberg) who has reported that Apple and Sony are collaborating together to bring PlayStation VR2 controller support for the Vision Pro mixed reality headset. This was initially planned to be announced a few weeks back as per the report, however, it has been postponed. It is also reported that under this partnership, Apple would possibly start selling the PlayStation VR2 controllers as a standalone product at its retail and online stores.
To add, this rumored partnership is amidst Apple’s ongoing research with its own controller dubbed ‘Wand’, and the company has already spent a few years prototyping it. But based on newer updates, there is no imminent launch plan and this could be the reason for Apple’s partnership with Sony. Speaking more, Apple’s ‘Wand’ is more a pencil-like device made for precise control, and not for gaming.
As of now, Sony has spent months in order to bring the PSVR2 controller support and in the meantime, Apple third-party developers have been asked whether they would make use of this controller support. Apart from just gaming, Sony’s PSVR2 controllers may also help in precise control and navigation across apps like Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro too.
Stay tuned for more updates.
