Delhi Police along with Mumbai police registered case against user “Bulli Bai” on GitHub for Gang Rape Threats to a female Journalist

On Sunday, the Delhi Police registered a case based using a complaint from a female journalist who claimed that an anonymous gang of people was stalking her on a smartphone app named ‘Bulli Bai,’ which was developed on the GitHub platform. An FIR under Section 509 has been registered in the Cyber Police station in the South-East district, according to Delhi Police.

Six months ago, Delhi police submitted a complaint alleging that photographs of Muslim women were being shared and “auctioned” on the Github app. Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted late Saturday that action had been taken, that the GitHub user behind the ‘Bulli Bai’ programme had been blocked, and that “more action” was being planned.

GitHub acknowledged banning the user this morning, according to Vaishnaw, in response to Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi’s tweet. The Computer Emergency Response Team and police authorities are collaborating to plan the next measures, he said. After thanking the Union Minister, Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed her hope that the Home Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology MEITY will aid Mumbai Police in apprehending the culprits.

A woman filed a complaint with the Cyber police station, stating that her photo was used to target her on a website. The complainant demanded that a FIR be filed immediately and that an investigation be launched into unknown individuals bullying and insulting Muslim women on social media and the internet. The complaint had been considered, and responsible officials had been ordered to take appropriate action, according to the police.

Meanwhile, the lady said that she was startled to learn that a website “featured a doctored image of her in an improper, unpleasant, and clearly obscene setting.”
She remarked that sexist segments of society cannot use social media as a vehicle of public speech to disparage and derogate women in general, and Muslim women in particular. She added that the aforementioned ‘GitHub’ is aggressive and frightening, with the goal of instilling dread and humiliation in the hearts of women and the Muslim community, whose women are being targeted in this horrific manner.
