Don’t build moats, build tech trees – Elon Musk

Don’t build moats, build tech trees Elon Musk added to his Twitter today. Elon Musk has always favoured opening more Tech trees as they are expansive and organic, monuments to possibility. On the other hand, Moats are filled with sewage and stinky, built for petty tyrants.

What is a tech tree?

In strategy games, a technology, tech, or research tree is a hierarchical visual representation of the possible sequences of upgrades a player can take. Because these trees are technically directed and acyclic, they can more accurately be described as a technology-directed acyclic graph.

What are moats?

A moat is a deep, broad ditch, either dry or filled with water, that is dug and surrounds a castle, fortification, building or town, historically to provide it with a preliminary line of defence. In some places, moats evolved into more extensive water defences, including natural or artificial lakes, dams and sluices.
