Elon Musk Calls PayPal a Black Mirror Episode: Here’s What We Know

Elon Musk recently replied to a tweet by The Free Press, calling PayPal as an episode of the Black Mirror television series.

The payments platform, PayPal has invited a lot of bad remarks for its de-platforming policies which includes freezing of funds, issuing fines and negotiations for unlocking the accounts of its users.

One of the co-founders of PayPal, Peter Thiel had also raised his voice against PayPal’s current de-banking policies and has referred to PayPal as totalitarian in nature.

PayPal was created with a goal of giving its users a control over their money but recent actions by the payments platform is destroying its users economically.

Its founding COO, David Sacks has also come forward to raise his voice against the actions of PayPal. He has also criticized the current CEO of PayPal, Dan Schulman for everything he has done.

The recent de-platforming actions done by PayPal includes, shutting of accounts linked with Freedom Phone start-up, The Free Speech Union, The Daily Sceptic and Consortium News.

The Free Press had tweeted about how PayPal has changed from its initial goal to something which decides what is wrong and what is right. It was to this tweet that Musk had made his remark. He addresses PayPal as an episode of the Black Mirror.

The British television series, the Black Mirror presented a dystopian reality where machines controlled men. It is exactly the same way that PayPal is controlling its users by restricting their financial freedom and limiting their right to express themselves.

The “PayPal Mafia” which included Musk, David Sacks and Peter Thiel, who were all in its team has expressed their views regarding how PayPal has changed over the recent few years.
