Falsified tweets of Shinzo Abe regarding Hillary Clinton being circulated after his assassination
A screenshot shows that Japan’s former Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe who was murdered on Friday, tweeted: “I have information that will lead to the arrest of Hillary Clinton.”
Fact-checkers from AP and Reuters have said that an image circulating showing a purported Tweet from Abe is fabricated.
“Abe’s verified Twitter account uses a different username and profile picture than the ones shown in the altered image. The Japanese text in the altered image does not mention Clinton, either,” a source as per AP News.
Former US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton on Twitter has paid her condolences to Abe’s death after he was shot during a campaign.
“Prime Minister Abe was a champion of democracy and a firm believer that no economy, society, or country can achieve its full potential if women are left behind. I am shocked and devastated by his assassination—a loss for Japan and our world,” she tweeted.

Abe was shot in the chest while campaigning for a parliamentary election in the Nara region.
According to the reports of NHK, the local fire department said that Abe was not showing any vital signs. He was in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest and was immediately transferred to Nara Medical University Hospital in Kashihara city.
Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida said that Abe was in grave condition.
“He condemned the shooting in the western city of Nara during the campaign for Sunday’s upper house election as an unacceptable attack on the foundation of Japan’s democracy”, a source as per NDTV.
Police have arrested a 41-year-old man suspected of carrying out the shooting. NHK quoted the suspect, Tetsuya Yamagami, as telling police he was dissatisfied with Abe and wanted to kill him.
