How Social Media app Facebook led to Rape of a 13-Year old

A teenager from Agripada in central Mumbai was allegedly abducted and raped by his friend. The police gave this information on Tuesday. An official said the accused was a friend of the 13-year-old victim on Facebook. He said that the police arrested the 22-year-old main accused and his four accomplices on Monday in separate raids in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and freed the victim.

The officer said that the victim had been missing from her home since July 1, after which her mother lodged a complaint. He said that during investigation, it was found that the girl was in contact with the main accused on Facebook. After this, police teams were sent to Jhalwar in Rajasthan and Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh to find out the accused.

They said that on confidential information, the police raided these places and arrested the five people and saved the victim. The officer said that during interrogation, the main accused told that between the COVID-19 lockdown, he kidnapped the girl with the help of her accomplices and took her to Rajasthan.

According to the official, the vehicle used by the accused, despite the lockdown rules, was not stopped incidentally. He said that the girl was allegedly raped by the main accused.

He said that a case has been registered against the arrested accused under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (Poxo) Act and investigation is on.
