Instagram feed showing gore sensitive content, sparks outrage amongst users

It’s always nice to sit down and watch some reels on Instagram to relax. But, for some reason Instagram has been showing some gore content from past few days. Some may say that it’s probably the content we have watched earlier and that is why it is showing that kind of content more.
Likely, the platform wants you to be engaged and for some odd reason the algo seems to like throwing these kinds of content to users. Even though it does show a warning before the content “Sensitive Content” and you have to click on “see reels” only then you can access the content.

Even I noticed in my Instagram feed, some gross killing videos have started to appear. This type of content is mostly found on the dark web, but some Instagram handles are enjoying the reach who post this kind of content.
Some users even posted on X claiming that since yesterday, this type of content has increased a lot. Also, this is not just limited to one region but users from around the globe have reported this.
One of the users on X wrote “If you allow your child to use Instagram, STOP NOW. Instagram is currently flooded with extreme gore and violent content—either due to a major algorithm failure or a deliberate move by the content moderation team. Stay away from Instagram Reels, and make sure your kids do too.”

But the larger picture is, what if that content is being consumed by kids? Everyone now has access to social media, and this is definitely a big thing. Though Meta has officially apologised for this, and in a statement given to CNBC, a Meta spokesperson said that they have fixed the problem.
