Just rewatched True Romance – Elon Musk

True Romance is a romantic crime film directed by Tony Scott and written by Quentin Tarantino that was released in 1993. Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette lead an ensemble cast that also includes Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, and Christopher Walken. After stealing a shipment of cocaine, Slater and Arquette play newlyweds on the run from the Mafia.

Tarantino wrote an early script for True Romance, and following the success of his feature film debut Reservoir Dogs, he sold the screenplay for the picture (1992). Proponents see it as a mash-up of writer Tarantino’s and filmmaker Scott’s distinct signatures, including a Southern California location, pop cultural references, and stylised violence punctuated by slow motion.

The film garnered great critical reception upon its initial release, with critics applauding its dialogue, characters, and off-beat approach.

Despite being a box office disaster at the time, it gained a cult following and is now regarded as one of Scott’s best pictures, as well as one of the best American films of the 1990s.
