Here’s more about it
Removal of Twitter Suicide Prevention Feature
Twitter all of a sudden removes its suicide prevention feature from its platform. The suicide prevention feature promoted support hotlines to users who searched a particular content. A #ThereIsHelp appeared on the screen of the users, which allowed them to contact and communicate with people to deal with their problems.
People who searched contents related to HIV, mental health, child sexual exploitation, gender-based violence, COVID-19, vaccines, and freedom of expression were people who were really affected were provided with the support they needed through these hotline supports.
Many organisations including AIDS United and iLaw were shocked to see the feature disappear from the Twitter platform. Damar Juniarto, the Executive Director of Southeast Asia Freedom of Expression Network had tweeted the action to be a stupid one taken by Twitter.
After the report which came on Reuters, Twitter had restored the feature back on its platform. Ella Irwin, the Head of Trust and Safety in Twitter had tweeted that the feature was only temporarily removed as the platform was making changes to its prompts.
However the action made by Twitter has invited the dislike of many people as such an important feature shouldn’t be removed. Musk previously had mentioned how they plan to remove child sexual abuse contents from its platform and make it safe for children. But the recent action changes a lot about what they are aiming at.
The report was again shared on Twitter by a Twitter user and Musk had commented that the news to be fake. With the statement made by Ella Irwin from Twitter, it is confirmed that the news is not fake and Twitter had purposefully removed the feature to make changes in their platform.
