No More Judging by Dislike Count: YouTube making Dislike Count Private to Protect Content Creators from disliking attacks

The famous American online video sharing and social media platform YouTube has announced that the dislike count will not be displayed to the viewers under the video with its new update. Users will still be able to like or dislike a video according to their choice but the count will be private and will only be visible to the creator of video.

YouTube stated that the decision is taken to protect small creators from being targeted by dislike attacks or harassment. It will also protect creators from the mass-disliking attack of mob because they have the problem with the creator and have nothing to do with content. It will bring a big change to user experience as the users decide whether to watch a video or not by checking the dislikes count.

The company conducted a test run earlier this year to decide for updates which made it to decide to make the dislike count private to protect creators from disliking attack. It stated, “Based on what we learned, we’re making the dislike counts private across YouTube, but the dislike button is not going away. This change will start gradually rolling out today.”

The creators will be able to check the dislikes in YouTube Studio along with their YouTube metrics and the users can present themselves by disliking videos or leaving comments. There are various users upset with the update as it will be hard to judge video before watching it.

YouTube said, “We know that you might not agree with this decision, but we believe that this is the right thing to do for the platform. We want to create an inclusive and respectful environment where creators have the opportunity to succeed and feel safe to express themselves. This is just one of many steps we are taking to continue to protect creators from harassment. Our work is not done, and we’ll continue to invest here.”
