Nothing Announces Community Edition Project 2025: Co-Create the Upcoming Phone (3a)

Nothing has officially launched the 2025 edition of its Community Edition Project, marking a second round of collaborative innovation with its global fanbase. Following the success of last year’s Phone (2a) Plus Community Edition — which sold out online in just 15 minutes and received the prestigious Gold iF Design Award — the company is inviting the community once again to shape its next co-created product.

A New Chapter Begins: Phone (3a) Community Edition

This year’s project will revolve around Phone (3a), with a revamped structure designed to enhance collaboration between participants and the Nothing team. Unlike last year, when briefs were rolled out gradually, all four creative briefs are available starting today, giving participants nearly a month to prepare and submit their entries.

The submission window is open from March 26 until April 23, 2025, at 11am BST. After that, a 24-hour community voting period will take place, followed by an internal jury selection to determine the winners.

The 2025 Briefs: Broader and More Creative

Nothing has introduced more open-ended briefs this time, encouraging entrants to explore a wider creative scope. The four categories for 2025 are:

  • Hardware Design: Reimagine the look and packaging of Phone (3a).
  • Software Design: Create new visual and interface concepts for an original on-screen experience.
  • Accessory: Design an exclusive accessory or collectible to pair with the Community Edition phone.
  • Marketing Campaign: Pitch a creative launch campaign to introduce the Phone (3a) Community Edition to the world.
  • Participants are reminded that changes to the physical structure of the device — such as camera layout or Glyph lighting — are not permitted.

Prizes and Perks

  • Winners in each category will receive:
  • An all-expenses-paid trip to London for co-creation workshops and the official launch event later this year.
  • A £1,000 cash prize.
  • The final manufactured version of the Community Edition Phone (3a).

Last year’s project saw five community members — Astrid, Kenta, Andres_123, Ian_H_Simmonds, and Palmix Art 🇮🇹 — co-design a limited edition of Phone (2a) with a distinctive glow-in-the-dark aesthetic. Their creation not only captured attention globally but also cemented Nothing’s unique approach to user-driven design.

Submissions are now open at nothing.tech. Entrants have until April 23 to submit their ideas. Full terms and conditions apply.

With more freedom, a tighter timeline, and a new device to shape, Nothing’s Community Edition Project 2025 promises to push the boundaries of co-creation even further.
