Nothing CEO Carl Pei praises the growth of Indian smartphone industry and government’s efforts towards it
The Indian smartphone industry has evolved immensely in the past years with the growth of technology and various government initiatives. Back in January 2025, it was revealed that India has become the second-largest mobile phone manufacturer globally with over 200 manufacturing facilities operating within the country. Also as the consumer spending power increases, international companies get substantial opportunities to enter the growing Indian market.
Today Nothing CEO, Carl Pei has praised the growth of the Indian smartphone industry and the government’s efforts towards it.
As per the CEO, India today stands where China was a decade ago in the smartphone industry- on the verge of a major revolution. He mentioned that with the government’s push for local manufacturing, a thriving tech ecosystem, and a rapidly expanding consumer base, India has all the ingredients to become a global smartphone powerhouse which is further reinforced by the government’s plans to develop Indian mobile phone brands.
He also said to explore how Nothing can contribute and be a part of this journey. Carl mentioned being in India this week and his excitement for insightful discussions. Till now Nothing has seen significant growth in India as the company has been introducing some amazing feature-packed devices at a budget-friendly price. In Q3,2024 Nothing was the fastest growing brand in India, achieving a remarkable 501% YoY growth in shipments and entering the top 10 list for the first time.
This is not the first time that Carl has appreciated India, earlier also mentioned India is the biggest market for Nothing smartphones and highlighted that Nothing distinguishes itself as the only brand with true differentiation in a market largely dominated by Chinese brands.
