Porn Website URL Accidentally Printed On Mattel’s ‘WICKED’ Dolls Packaging: Drives 12 Year Surge In Traffic To Porn Site

Toy maker Mattel recently launched its Wicked movie-themed dolls that feature characters from the movie adaptation of Wicked that is set to hit the theatres later this month. These Wicked-themed dolls have lately gained a lot of attention due to a packaging misprint.

The packaging box mentions a URL on the back which instead of linking to Universal Pictures’ official WickedMovie.com.page leads the buyers to an adult film site Wicked.com that requires consumers to be over 18 to enter. As soon as this error came to notice, these Wicked dolls were made unavailable on sites like Amazon, Target, and Mattel.

Reports reveal that in the last two days, searches for wicked.com (URL misprinted by Mattel) have surged to their highest levels since mid-2012.

Apologizing for this mistake, Mattel said in a statement, “Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the US, which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page. We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this. ”

The company has also advised the consumers that the misprinted website is not appropriate for children hence consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link.
