Tik Tok offering users new ways to control For You page
The Chinese company, Tik Tok is starting to offer its users a new way of controlling their For You page.
On Wednesday, the company announced that the users will be able to specify particular words or hashtags they don’t wish to see in the feeds, and the app will automatically filter them out.
The company’s example is fairly simple, like when the user has finished a reno and doesn’t want to see DIY videos anymore or decides to not see cooking tutorials using a certain type of food or meat. But these filters can be used to much more carefully control your feed.
According to the Verge, These kinds of automatic tools are Tik Tok’s bread and butter and the platform has mostly resisted giving users fine-grained tools for controlling the content they see (or don’t).
Even the app’s layout shows its priorities: the user can swipe to the Following feed, sure, but the For You page is where TikTok’s remarkable algorithm gets to simply inform what the user likes.
“The app has had a “Not Interested” button for a while, which you can use to stop seeing videos from a particular user or those that use a particular sound. Adding the hashtag filters is an obvious next move and is similar to what some other social platforms have done,” a source as per The Verge.
