Twitter users on Android face a little problem, the app fixes it
Twitter has fixed a vulnerability within its Android app that could permit hackers to use personal information of users or dominate their accounts. In a blog post recently, Twitter said that the dangerous code could be placed into prohibited storage areas of Twitter code to use information such as Direct Messages, protected Tweets, location information from the app.
“Twitter for Android that could allow a bad actor to see nonpublic account information or to control your account (i.e., send Tweets or Direct Messages),” read the post. “We don’t have evidence that malicious code was inserted in to the app or that this vulnerability was exploited, but we can’t be completely sure so we are taking extra caution,” it added.
Twitter has given the justification that the problem just affects the Android users of the app, therefore, it appears Twitter users on iOS are safe. Though the company has not shared if the problem was exploited, it is sending messages to people who could have been vulnerable to the problem via the Twitter app or email with guides on how to keep their account safe.
Also, Twitter users on Android are suggested to update to the latest version of the app. “If you are unsure about what to do, update to the latest version of Twitter for Android. This issue did not impact Twitter for iOS,” Twitter informed.

Twitter was recently under fire for an accusation of bias in India regarding the social media platform’s policies and their execution. Twitter was attacked for suspending the account of Supreme Court senior advocate Sanjay Hegde, whose account was suspended for 2017 tweet. The suspension of Hegde’s account saw support from activists on Twitter, many of whom issued a call to boycott the platform and switch to another Mastodon.
