Images of captured Russian military hardware being towed away by tractors have become a daily social media feature. The most recent video shows a Ukrainian tractoir driver removing a Russian BTR-82A armoured personnel carrier from the battleground in Huliaipole, Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Ukraine’s Territorial Defence fighters seized the vehicle.
Aside from the fighting, Bobitski claims that Russian troops are systematically destroying farms and farm equipment as they advance deeper into the country.
“One of the most horrifying aspects of this Russian war is that Russian troops deliberately target and destroy agricultural machinery in Donetsk Oblast, as well as near Chernihiv and Sumy,” Bobitski said. “They really pursue a scorched earth policy in terms of [Ukraine’s] agricultural facilities.”
Aside from the risks that farmers face as a result of bombings and missile attacks, Ukraine’s government claims that Russian forces have dropped landmines from the air over a large swath of agricultural land, making it unsafe.
