WhatsApp report says that it has banned almost 23 lakh user’s account in October

According to a report by WhatsApp, it banned 2.3 million accounts in the month of October. As per the reports, 811,000 of 2.3 million accounts were proactively banned before any reports from the user. This report has been published in accordance with the IT rules 2021 for the month of October 2022.

As per the spokesperson of WhatsApp, reports contain information about complaints and the decision taken over them. This is a preventive action taken by WhatsApp to stop the harmful activity before it happens. There are a number of ways and criteria that WhatsApp apply to find out whether a user needs to be banned or not. Public response and negative feedback play a major role in deciding this.

It was just about recently when Meta which owns WhatsApp was slapped with a €265 million fine for failing to prevent the leak of personal data. This major action taken by WhatsApp reflects Meta is taking hard decisions to curb data leaks and violence spread.
