WrestleMania: According to an Ex-WWE Referee, the famous Streak of The Undertaker was over in 2009
As per the recent news, it stated that the legendary streak of Undertaker came to an end on April 6, 2014, when the Phenom was defeated by Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX. While the Deadman formerly held a preposterous 21-0 record in WWE’s annual Showcase of the Immortals, it has now been revealed that the streak was on the verge of being broken back in 2009.
According to the reports, The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michael match claimed to be the greatest WrestleMania game of all time, took place at Houston, Texas’ NRG Stadium in 2009. Undertaker and Michaels delivered an amazing classic, with “The Deadman” ultimately triumphing. We found that Marty Elias, the referee for that match, was recently a guest on Chris Jericho’s podcast, “Talk Is Jericho.” During the program, Elias revealed that The Undertaker’s streak was on the verge of being broken due to a count out.
Elias said that at WrestleMania 25, It was a shoot count when he made the counts on Taker after the dive. Taker was the only one who gave him significant advice during the contest. The advice goes like this if Undertaker is unable to return, Elias must count him out, and unfortunately, Elias came dangerously near to doing so.
He added: “But if you go back and look at that, I was drawing my counts out, and I was drawing 74,000 people in with my counts. I took my time because I was still selling because they had bumped me earlier. So, I was still selling that. But at the same time, I was still dramatizing it and I was elongating that count. So, I was getting the people behind me.” Furthermore, Taker and Elias didn’t maintain eye contact until the ninth on the tenth count. Hence, the streak came to an end on a count out at WrestleMania 25. He had a concussion. His collarbone was broken and ring finger was broken. Yes, you heard it right, at that point, Undertaker really screwed up.
According to Elias, after a dive out of the ring, Undertaker landed incorrectly and landed on his head. Taker had told Elias that if he didn’t manage to get back into the ring, he would be knocked out. Elias, on the other hand, was faking a hit he took earlier in the bout and was able to utilize it to slow his count. Taker was able to return to the ring and complete the match as scheduled.
As per the sources, it states that The Streak lasted another five years until Brock Lesnar stopped The Undertaker at WrestleMania 30. Lesnar and Roman Reigns are the only men to have ever crushed Undertaker at WrestleMania. Undertaker announced his retirement from active professional wrestling in November 2020 at Survivor Series. Vince McMahon honored him into the WWE Hall of Fame this past April in his native state of Texas.
