Blue Ghost Lunar Lander With NASA Tech Landing on 2nd March 2025
The Blue Ghost lunar lander was launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the Launch Complex 39A of NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on the 15th of January 2025 at 1:11 am EST carrying a suite of ten scientific investigations and technology demonstrations of NASA. The goal is to receive insights about the Moon’s environment as well as to test technologies that will help future astronauts to land safely on the lunar surface and also on Mars. This is as part of NASA’s CLPS initiative (Commercial Lunar Payload Services) and Artemis campaign (for long-term lunar presence establishment).
As per the latest update from NASA, the Blue Ghost lunar lander is expected to have its Moon landing on the 2nd of March 2025, Sunday, at 3:45 AM EST. The touchdown will take place near Mare Crisium – ‘a plain in the north-east quadrant on the near side of the Moon’. It has been announced that the live stream of landing will be jointly hosted both by NASA and Firefly Aerospace, and it will be aired to viewers on NASA+ and also on Firefly’s official YouTube channel, along with blog updates. To note, the live coverage will start 75 minutes prior to the touchdown, at 2:30 AM EST.
Later, following the lunar landing, NASA and Firefly will also be conducting a news conference in order to discuss the mission and also the scientific opportunities of the lunar surface operations. The time of the conference will be shared after the touchdown.
