In International Space Station beyond 2024, Russian participation is reportedly being discussed with Moscow

In the International Space Station beyond 2024, Russian participation is reportedly being discussed with Moscow, a Roscosmos spokesman said in a press conference on Monday.

Sergei Krikalev, the head of Russia’s human space flight programs, said in a press conference that “discussing with our government extending our participation in ISS program and hope to receive authorization to continue next year.”

Roscosmos president Yuri Borissov had stated throughout the summer that Russia will quit the ISS “after 2024”. In addition, it attempted to create its own space station because relations between Russia and the West were deteriorating due to the situation in Ukraine.

Yuri Borissov said Prior to the launch of a SpaceX rocket on Wednesday that will carry a Russian cosmonaut, two American astronauts, and a Japanese astronaut to the International Space Station. They’ll probably keep flying until they have new infrastructure because Krikalev said that building a new station will take time.

The space sector is one of the few areas of collaboration that has survived the strong hostility between the United States and Russia since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February.

The ISS partner nations of the US, Russia, Europe, Canada, and Japan have only agreed to operate the orbiting laboratory until 2024, despite the fact that US officials have previously stated that they aim to continue until 2030.
