Jeff-Bezos owned space company Blue Origin is working on turning moon dust into solar power
NASA is currently working on its Artemis program. Their aim is to establish a human presence on the lunar surface in the future. Blue Origin, a space company which is owned by Jeff Bezos is a contributor towards the same with the Blue Alchemist solar program. Blue Origin is currently working on something super interesting. They have created a solar cell prototype. It enables turning moon dust into solar power.
How was the solar cell prototype created?
In order to create the solar cell prototype, Blue Origin used the byproducts of the regolith electrolysis process. These materials were used to create the glass covering the solar cell.
The company has a long-term vision about abundant solar power on the lunar surface. The prototype is a stepping stone towards the same. The estimated life of the solar cell prototype is approximately ten years or a decade.
It is important to understand that humanity is now making an attempt to test technology on the moon’s surface in order to facilitate sustainable human presence on it. With NASA’s backing, Blue Origin is bound to soar.
Apart from this, NASA is also working on melting lunar regolith and generating oxygen alike Blue Origin.
In a few hundred years or so from today, the Earth might face a catastrophe and human life will face a tragic end. With the rising pollution levels and global warming, this is not an exaggeration. So humans working in the field of space are exploring viable options to sustain human life in the near future.
