NASA plans to buy five more crew flights from SpaceX!

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) this week stated that it has planned to purchase five more SpaceX Crew Dragon missions. Consequently, this crewed flights may be used to carry astronauts to the International Space Station.

However, no agreement has been signed yet to confirm the deal. Also, the expected value of the contract is not yet disclosed. NASA has announced a ‘sole source modification’ to its contract with SpaceX, that manages only American system that carriers astronauts.

‌Accordingly with the five-flight purchase, a 3.5 billion contract has also awarded to SpaceX in February. At that time, NASA stated that it may buy more flights from SpaceX.

NASA wants to keep the lab going on until the year 2030, but the other major partners including Russia, would have to approve. However Russian approval might be little difficult because other space partnerships will dissolve and will fall apart amid the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
