NASA shared spectacular night image of Earth, India looks brighter than Europe
A spectacular satellite image of the Earth at night has been shared by NASA that has garnered thousands of likes on Instagram. This kind of image is called the night image which has been a topic of research for scientists to study the human settlement and how it lit up the darkness. NASA in the caption elaborated on this image by writing “the image shows Earth’s night light as observed in 2016. It is drawn from a composting technique that selected the best cloud-free nights in each month over each land mass in 2016”.
Former NASA Earth scientist Miguel Roman wrote “Using this data we can monitor short-term changes caused by the disturbance in power delivery such as conflict, storms, earthquakes, and brownouts. We can monitor cyclical changes driven by recurring human activities such as holiday lighting and seasonal migrations”.
Further, he wrote “We can also monitor gradual changes driven by the urbanization, out-migration, economic changes, and electrification” The post shows Europe and northern Africa shine bright but India can also be seen clearly in the image with bright light. One of the Instagram users dead_soul2129 wrote in a comment “India looks so bright”, while Vivek_favian wrote, “India is shining brighter than Europe and North Africa”.
