NASA’s Europa Clipper mission about Jupiter’s icy moon is one of its kind: Check details here

Recently, NASA posted about the Europa Clipper mission on its official Twitter account. The team at NASA also mentioned in this tweet that the ice vacuum chamber used in the Europa experiment is called ‘The Ark’. The Ark mimics the conditions on the surface of the icy moon of the planet Jupiter. The tweet was accompanied by a Gif.

Have a look at this tweet here.

The aim of this mission is to find out whether there are habitable conditions below the surface of Jupiter’s icy moon namely Europa Clipper. The brains behind this mission are incredible. They are Dr. Kevin Peter Hand, a principal investigator and the Director of the Ocean Worlds Lab. Sarah N. Yearicks and Jeff Foster are also contributing immensely to this mission. The assembly related to Europa and its research is ongoing at the JPL labs and Ocean Worlds Lab under the aegis of NASA.

Another fact about ‘The Ark’ is that it studies the shape of ice and witnesses the transformations under different temperatures and climatic conditions. The Ocean Worlds Lab is responsible for simulating conditions alike the ocean world of Europa (at the surface and below the surface).

Interestingly, Europa is considered to be a habitable place as the ice that covers holds an ocean underneath. This similarity between the Earth and Europa might be a stepping stone towards future discoveries about whether the latter supports life alike that on Earth or not.

What will be discovered next is still a mystery with researchers working day and night on such an important project.
