South Korea makes headlines after the successful launch of its home-grown rocket, Nuri

Recently, North Korea attracted a lot of public attention when it fired a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan. A further confirmation of this operation surfaced when the South Korean Military released the truth in front of the public media stating, that North Korea had fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) close to its east coast.

Amidst such broiling issues about North Korea, earlier today another update surfaced on the internet, explaining South Korea’s feat of successfully launching its first home-grown rocket Nuri. South Korean officials have stated the purpose of the rocket would be, to launch satellites. The rocket, Korean Satellite Launch Vehicle, took off from Goheung, a place located south of Seoul somewhere around Thursday afternoon. This new achievement of South Korea has made it the seventh country in the world to successfully send a rocket into space. The success of this space venture has also gathered much accolade from various fields for the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) and resulted into some optimistic talks, about how it would impact the country’s future in space research.

However, the launch of this hefty rocket, with its six liquid-fueled engines and a weight of 200 tonnes and length of 47.2 metres, is also getting viewed as a part of the arms race, where both the north and south Korean countries are vigorously ramping up their weaponry for showcasing their potential to one another as well as to the world.
