Two Russian astronauts, will perform a spacewalk outside the International Space Station on Wednesday, 25 October 2023

NASA to provide live coverage, check objectives of the spacewalk here

The Expedition 70, is the 70th long-duration expedition to the International Space Station (ISS). NASA and Roscosmos, the Russian Space Agency are the operators of the expedition. The expedition began on 27 September 2023.

In recent developments, it was reported that two Russian astronauts of Roscosmos will perform a spacewalk outside the International Space Station on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. The two astronauts are Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub.

On the other hand, NASA recently updated that they will provide live coverage of the spacewalk. You can check the coverage on October 25 at 1:30 p.m. EDT on NASA Television, the NASA app, and the agency’s website.

Objectives of the spacewalk

  • The two astronauts will install a synthetic radar communications system. The communications hardware is expected to enhance future communication capabilities space.
  • Their objective also includes releasing a nanosatellite. The purpose behind this is to test solar sail technology. Solar sail technology is a propulsion method that uses radiation pressure from the Sun.
  • The astronauts will also carry out an inspection of the external backup radiator on the Nauka multipurpose laboratory module. They will also take pictures of the same. The said radiator underwent issues of a coolant leak on October 9.

Expedition 70 Flights: At present, Expedition 70 includes two spaceflights. The Soyuz MS-24/70S, which has onboard Roscosmos astronauts Oleg Kononenko, Nikolai Chub and NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara; and the SpaceX Crew-7, which has onboard NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli, European Space Agency astronaut Andreas Mogensen, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Satoshi Furukawa and Roscosmos astronaut Konstantin Borisov.

The Expedition 70 will end when NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara departs on Soyuz MS-24 in March 2024.
