What is happening at the large hadron collider now? Let’s check it out
The Large Hadron Collider itself has undergone a massive combine programme and will now operate at a higher energy. It is the world’s largest particle collider which will start collecting data from July 5 at10.00 am. Eastern time in Geneva, Switzerland.
When was the Large Hadron collider established?
In the great discoveries so far, the scientist first planned the Higgs boson collider in 1960 and since then, the scientists restored it until it was discovered in 2012. In fact, the Higgs boson was one of the reasons that the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was developed.
LHC is chambered in a circular tunnel with 27 (17 miles) kilometers in circumference and 4 meters (13 feet) wide. The structure of LHC is so large just to beam particles and if possible, the scientists will develop a future circular collider which will be four times more circumference than of the current LHC circumference.
How does LHC work?
The large hadron collider was nearly shut down for four years due to covid, but now the large hadron collider will commence its third round which is called, succinctly, Run 3.
Moreover, the LHC smashes particles like protons but it can also collide larger particles called ‘heavy ions’.
The Large Hadron Collider initially shoots two beams of particles into its ring which is travelling in opposite directions. After they come near to the speed of light, they collide head on.
What all did LHC discovered ?
So far, LHC’s biggest discovery has been the Higgs boson. Because of LHC discovery, particle physicists confirms that the theory about how world works at tiny scale was correct.
What Scientist are expecting to find after the upgrade?
The particle physics have lived by and died by the so called ‘Standard model’ for more than a decade. Also, particle physics have almost obeyed standard model’s predictions.
But there are few curiousity which standard model do not answer. The model do not answer the fourth fundamental force – gravity. Nor it responded for dark matter which is more than five times greater in abundance than ‘normal’ matter.
These some unanswered questions are expected to be responded. Also, some scientists claims that there’s a fifth fundamental force lurking somewhere out there.
