Gmail Users Can Now Protect Their Emails From Being Forwarded, Copied, Printed Or Downloaded With Confidential Mode

There have been instances where users have faced issues like their email getting copied, forwarded, downloaded, and printed by unauthorized sources. This becomes more risky when emails contain sensitive information. Well, Google has taken into consideration this issue of the users and introduced Confidential Mode in Gmail.

With the help of Confidential Mode, you can send messages and attachments with Gmail’s confidential mode to help protect sensitive information from unauthorized access. Users can also set an expiration date for their messages or revoke access at any time. Though users should remember that this mode helps prevent recipients from accidentally sharing your email, it doesn’t prevent recipients from taking screenshots or photos of your messages or attachments. Whereas recipients who have malicious programs on their computer may still be able to copy or download the emails.

How To Send Messages And Attachments in Confidential Mode?

  • On your device, go to Gmail.
  • Tap Compose.
  • In the top right, tap More > confidential mode .
    • If you’ve already turned on confidential mode, go to the bottom of the email, then click Edit.
  • Set an expiration date and passcode. These settings impact both the message text and any attachments.
    • If you choose “Standard,”recipients using the Gmail app will be able to open it directly. Recipients who don’t use Gmail will get emailed a passcode.
    • If you choose “SMS passcode,” recipients will get a passcode by text message. Make sure you enter the recipient’s phone number, not your own.
  • Tap Done.
