Home Screen Alternatives: Restore your old home screen layout on your new Samsung Galaxy device in this way
We often change from one Android phone/tablet to another for various reasons. One particular problem that you have probably faced in doing so, is the home screen configurations not matching up with your previous device. If your work is heavily dependent on your phone/tablet, organizing the new device into the old home screen layout can be a headache.
A Reddit user raised a similar query regarding one of their Samsung devices.
The user wanted to be aware if there are any apps that can help in transferring home screen configuration between Samsung devices or from/to other devices.
If you have ever faced such a situation, one option that you can easily opt for is to replace the Samsung Home Screen with Nova Launcher. However, in doing so you can lose some of the benefits and features of the One UI Home Screen Launcher.
We further researched the home screen alternatives which are available and found one alternative for Samsung Galaxy devices, which you can have a look at.
Samsung has an app called Good Lock which uses secondary plugin apps to customize the UI on your Galaxy. One of these plugin apps backs up your launcher.
You can install the app Good Lock from the Samsung Galaxy Store. After that, on opening Good Lock, you will find an app titled Home Up from their list of different apps. Select and install the Home Up app.
After installing Home Up, come back to Good Lock, choose Home Up and you will land on the “Back up and Restore” option.
Select the option “Immediate” to create a new backup. You will notice a screenshot of your current home screen layout under the “File List”. You can choose how frequently you want Home Up to keep backing up your home screen layout.
It is necessary to back up Home Up’s backup on your Google Drive.
Open “My Files” on your device and go to Internal Storage. Select Settings from the three-dot menu and under Settings, turn on the “Show hidden system files” option.
Return to Internal Storage and choose the file “. AutoBackup”, and copy the EML file to Google Drive.
When you switch to a new device, install Good Lock and Home Up again. To restore the old layout, open the home up, and create a new backup. After that, transfer your backup file from Internal Storage to the “. AutoBackup” folder on your phone.
Finally, open Home Up for one last time, and under “File List”, select the screenshot that corresponds to the backup of your old home screen and choose ‘OK’. In this way, you will have your old home screen layout restored.
