How to Use OxygenOS 15’s Anti-Theft Features on Your OnePlus Device

When Android 15 made its debut on Pixel phones, its anti-theft feature garnered significant attention. Now, OnePlus has added this same security feature to OxygenOS 15. Let me explain these features and how you can make the most of them.

Smart Theft Detection

Think of this as your phone’s personal security guard. Using sophisticated AI and your device’s sensors, it can detect suspicious movements when your phone is unlocked. Every 30 minutes, the system analyzes movement patterns through the gyroscope – if it detects motions that suggest someone has grabbed your phone and is running away, it instantly locks your screen. This quick response prevents unauthorized access to your personal data and stops anyone from using password-free features.

Intelligent Offline Security

This clever feature acts as a backup plan to the theft detection system. Thieves often try to outsmart security by taking phones offline to prevent tracking or remote wiping through Find My Device. Your phone counters this by automatically locking when it detects offline use for a brief period. The same protection kicks in if someone removes your SIM card or repeatedly fails to enter the correct password.

Emergency Remote Control

When your phone goes missing, panic can make it hard to remember your Google account details. The Remote Lock feature simplifies this by letting you lock your device using just your phone number from any other device. This gives you breathing room to recover your account information and access Find My Device’s other features, including the nuclear option of completely wiping your device. Even if your phone is offline when you send the lock command, it will activate as soon as the device reconnects to the internet. Once locked remotely, only your original screen lock can unlock it.

Enhanced Identity Verification

This security layer prevents unauthorized changes to your device’s critical settings. When your phone is unlocked, anyone attempting to modify sensitive settings must verify their identity through biometrics or your lock screen password. This applies to actions like disabling Find My Device, removing the eSIM, changing USB settings, adjusting screen timeout, or turning off theft protection.

Key Requirements:

1. A lock screen password is mandatory for these features

2. Theft detection only works on unlocked devices

3. The theft detection system checks every 30 minutes but won’t activate when:

  • You have active Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections
  • The phone gets locked frequently in a short time

4. Offline protection requires both offline status and an unlocked screen 5. The offline lock has a twice-per-day activation limit 6. Remote lock needs:

  • Working SIM card
  • Phone number verification
  • Active Find My Device
  • Internet connection

Activating Protection: Settings > Google > All service > Theft protection > Select desired security features

Setting Up Remote Lock: Settings > Google > All service > Theft protection > Remote Lock For first-time setup:

  • Choose Verify number
  • Enable automatic number verification
