Qualcomm’s 2nd Gen Snapdragon 8 Elite and 2nd Gen Snapdragon 8s Elite Chips to Use Nuvia Oryon Architecture?
Based on this latest Weibo update from tipster Digital Chat Station, it has been pointed out that Qualcomm is likely going to make use of its self-developed CPU architecture – Nuvia Oryon architecture, manufactured with TSMC’s 3nm process technology, for its next second generation of Snapdragon 8 Elite and Snapdragon 8s Elite chips. Furthermore, it has been revealed that the former would carry the model number – ‘SM8850’, whereas the latter bears the model number – ‘SM8835’.
While looking at some of the sub-flagships that were unveiled this time (in late 2024), such as Xiaomi’s Redmi K80 series and OnePlus’ Ace 5 series, the chip combination that was adopted is Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for the vanilla or standard model and Snapdragon 8 Elite for the pro model. Tipster Digital Chat Station’s post also notes that from this combination, the next series sub-flagships may adopt a chip combination of 2nd Gen Snapdragon 8s Elite (SM8835) + 2nd Gen Snapdragon 8 Elite (SM8850).
Speaking more, in related news, it was previously said that Qualcomm may rely on both Samsung’s SF2 and TSMC’s N3P technologies for the 2nd Gen Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, however follow-up reports pointed out that the TSMC N3P technology may only be used. Moreover, the 2nd Gen Snapdragon 8 Elite chip is also expected to bring at least 20%+ performance improvement and incorporate a built-in single-frame-level power consumption reduction technology. Thus, Qualcomm’s 2nd Gen Snapdragon 8 Elite could be the mainstream chip that could be used in the next flagships.
