Samsung Patents for New Double Fold With Multi-Fold Form Factor Design and Galaxy Smart Ring Spotted
Last year saw the debut of many exciting smartphone models and one device that captured the attention of the whole tech world was Huawei’s Mate XT double fold or tri-fold (commonly called) smartphone. While Samsung is said to be the first to invent and patent such a device, considering the market space for foldable devices as well as the high pricing, the brand so far hasn’t proceeded with it.
Well, a new patent has now revealed a double fold with multi-fold form factor design that Samsung is currently working on, along with a patent of a new Galaxy Smart Ring. Read more about the update below.
Samsung’s New Double Fold With Multi-Fold Form Factor Design
Following the November 2024 patent of Samsung concerning a double fold smartphone, last week the World IP Office published a new patent (WO2025005482) which points out a device with a multi-fold form factor design that can be folded-in and folded-out. The below given schematic diagrams reveal how this innovative and so far first such product works. Two magnets have also been incorporated onto the device, for seamless folding experience as well.
Speaking more, sensors such as a folding detection sensor, magnetic sensor, proximity sensor, angular velocity sensor, acceleration sensor, gyro sensor, barometer, biometric sensor, temperature sensor, humity sensor, and/or a fingerprint sensor may also be present on the device.
Samsung’s New Galaxy Smart Ring
Coming to the new Galaxy Smart Ring patent (WO2025005411), the device has been listed as a ‘wearable device that comprises a sensor’. An insulating member that forms a first surface and an optical sensor are suggested to be a part of the device.
Moreover, the first surface has a ‘first section’ and a ‘second section surrounded by the first’. Additionally, the second section also includes Fresnel patterns aligned with the optical sensor.
