Xiaomi 15, 15 Pro tipped to feature 50MP OmniVision main camera
Xiaomi’s next major announcements for the Chinese market include the Xiaomi Mix Flip, the Mix Fold 4, the Redmi K70 Ultra, and the Redmi Note 14 series. After these devices go official in the next few months, the brand will reportedly take off covers from the Xiaomi 15 series in October of this year. While the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro are expected to launch in October, the 15 Ultra may debut in the second quarter of 2025. A new leak suggests that the 15 and 15 Pro will offer improvements in the primary camera department.
Reliable Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station has hinted at significant upgrades for the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro, particularly in their camera systems. The new models will feature a customised OmniVision 50-megapixel main camera with a 1/1.3-inch super-large sensor and a large aperture.
The Xiaomi 15 series will also include a new multi-layer nano ALD ultra-low-reflection coating, enhancing light transmittance, picture clarity, and texture, and reducing glare and ghosting. Notably, the Xiaomi 15 Pro may feature a periscope telephoto lens, absent in recent generations, significantly boosting its telephoto capabilities. A recent leak claimed that the 15 Pro will have a 50-megapixel (main) + 50-megapixel (ultra-wide) + 50-megapixel (periscope telephoto) triple camera unit on the back.
The series will also come standard with the AI-enabled imaging model Xiaomi AISP, which utilises computational photography for more three-dimensional light and shadow and a more natural depth of field.
As far as core configurations are concerned, the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro are expected to debut as the world’s first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 powered smartphones. The standard version will have a small straight screen, while the Pro version will feature an equal-depth micro-curved screen.
