5G on its way: BSNL to launch 5G services in the next few months

India has been eagerly waiting for 5G services to regulate, and even with certain companies having launched it, recently at the CII, Confederation of Indian Industries, BSNL. The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited announced that they are ready to launch 1.35 lakh 5G towers across the country over the next 5 to 7 months. Reliance and Jio are two companies that have already rolled out 5G services in the major cities of India.

The deployment of the telecom technology stack is planned. It currently uses 4G technology, but in five to seven months it will transition to 5G. Ashwini Vaishnav, the railway minister, announced that the 4G technology will be upgraded to 5G in just a matter of months. A 500 crore annual Telecom Technology Development Fund that has been established will be increased to 3,000–4,000 crore funds annually. The entire industry will have access to that technology development fund, according to Mr. Vaishnav.

In order to provide the benefits of 5G services to India’s distant regions, where the services of the normal market mechanism are still absent, the minister reiterated that the state telecom service provider’s 5G services will be essential. This will make sure that BSNL starts its 5G testing in advance. The minister asserted that BSNL is purportedly deploying its 5G service in outlying areas, which is at odds with the market strategy used by private operators.

Vaishnav also mentioned that the government is at present, promoting these technological innovations, particularly in the sectors of railway and defense. The government supports businesses from the idea to the concept stage, and occasionally even all the way through to the market or income stream, he continued, for at least three to four years.
