Apple is currently working with India’s two telecom giants Airtel and Jio for the next 5G experience
According to Bharti Airtel’s website, none of the iPhone models, including the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone 14 series devices, are currently compatible with Indian 5G networks. Indian iPhone users were disappointed to see this. However, it is obvious that this will not be the case indefinitely. Of course, the OTA (over-the-air) update that Apple needs to enable iPhones to work on Airtel’s 5G network will arrive sooner or later. According to the ET report, Apple is expected to add 5G support to iPhones in India by December when it releases a new iOS update.
Senior executives from Airtel and Apple are expected to meet this week to discuss software updates for enabling 5G support on iPhones. In India, Airtel and Jio have already launched 5G networks. Both operators are providing users with commercial 5G network experiences in a number of major cities across the country. While Android users can use Airtel’s 5G, iPhone users cannot because Apple has not enabled 5G support for iPhones in India.
According to the report, Apple is currently testing its iPhones on Airtel’s 5G network in Mumbai and Delhi. The software update could be released after testing is completed, most likely in December. Apple is not only testing its iPhones on Airtel’s network but Jio’s 5G network is also being considered.
Only after Apple is confident that the telecom operators’ 5G networks will provide the best network experience to iPhone users will it allow 5G to be turned on. Starting with the iPhone 12 series, all iPhone devices are capable of supporting 5G networks. Neither Apple nor Airtel have officially commented on this.
