Is Apple using cheaper battery parts to offset 5G cost? Here’s what we know so far

Owing to the 5G hardware inclusion in the ‘iPhone 12’ series and the resultant rising production costs, the Cupertino-headquartered company is trying to use less expensive components in other areas, claimed analyst Ming-chi Kuo.

Kuo said one of the biggest ways to reduce cost is believed to come from a battery technology, adding the iPhone maker is reducing the count of layers in the battery board and placing cell components in a smaller area, The Verge reported.

As a result, the battery board will be 40-50% cheaper than the iPhone 11’s equivalent part, as per Kuo’s claims.

The company is also said to be trimming battery costs for a third-generation AirPods, as per the news report.
