OneWeb Funded By Bharti Group Just Launched 36 Satellites From Russia’s Vostochny Cosmodrome
OneWeb, a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications startup funded by the Bharti Group, has launched 36 satellites from Russia’s Vostochny Cosmodrome.
OneWeb’s total in-orbit constellation now stands at 358 satellites, accounting for more than half of the company’s 648 LEO satellite fleet, which will provide high-speed, low-latency worldwide connectivity.
“With this launch, OneWeb marks the beginning of service demonstrations that highlight the network’s hardware and capabilities across a variety of applications,” according to a statement from the firm.
OneWeb has demo centers open in its London offices and the Westcott Venture Park Innovation Centre in Buckinghamshire, as well as in Talkeetna, Alaska, and Germantown, Maryland, in the United States, according to the firm.
The firm has announced collaborations with Galaxy Broadband, as well as the completed acquisition of the company formerly known as TrustComm, now OneWeb Technologies, as well as investment from Hanwha Systems and further money from Eutelsat, in the last month.
These advances, coupled with recent collaboration announcements with AT&T, Hughes Network Systems, Peraton, and BT, will help OneWeb achieve its aim of improving digital communication services in some of the world’s most difficult-to-reach locations.
OneWeb is on target to achieve global service by 2022, and telecommunications companies, ISPs, and governments throughout the world are clamoring for its low-latency, high-speed connection services. Since November 2020, OneWeb has raised $2.7 billion without issuing any debt.
